About the Keurig K-Supreme Settlement
A class action settlement has been reached with Keurig Green Mountain Inc. regarding specific K-Supreme coffee makers that allegedly suffer from a defect causing them to potentially lose power permanently during the descaling process.
Consumers who owned a K-Supreme, K-Supreme Plus, or K-Supreme SMART single-serve coffee maker between October 1, 2020, and June 20, 2025, may be eligible to participate in this settlement.
The claim deadline is November 14, 2025, so affected consumers should act promptly or they may not be eligible.
Alleged Keurig Coffee Maker Defect
The plaintiffs in this class action say that a serious appliance failure occurs when K-Supreme coffee makers undergo routine maintenance.
Alleged design flaw
According to the lawsuit, the machine’s thermal switch contains a “catastrophic design flaw” during descaling, a safety process designed to prevent overheating.
Detrimental effect
The alleged defect allows the water reservoir to empty without alerting the user to add more water, which plaintiffs say causes:
- Overheating heating elements
- Thermal switch triggering
- Permanently inoperable coffee makers
Infeasible fix
Plaintiffs also say that the only way to revive these machines requires disassembling them and manually resetting the thermal switch with a paperclip – a repair process beyond the capabilities of many consumers.
The alleged defect affected all K-Supreme models sold in a five-year production period, potentially impacting hundreds of thousands of coffee drinkers across the United States.
Legal Claims in the Keurig Class Action Lawsuit
The class action lawsuit argues that Keurig Green Mountain knew or should have known about the descaling malfunction but continued selling said defective K-Supreme coffee makers without warning consumers.
Court documents also claim that consumers flooded Keurig's website and major retail platforms with complaints describing identical failures during the descaling process.
Keurig Green Mountain faced the following accusations:
- Breach of Warranty: failed to deliver machines that functioned as promised.
- Negligence: knew of the defect but didn’t warn consumers or fix the problem.
- Fraud: marketed descaling as beneficial while knowing it would destroy the machines.
- Unjust Enrichment: profited from selling both defective machines and harmful descaling solutions.
While Keurig denies all allegations of defect and wrongdoing, the company has agreed to establish a settlement fund to compensate affected consumers, providing relief without incurring liability.
Who Can File a Claim?
The Keurig coffee machine class action settlement divides eligible consumers into two groups, each with different compensation options.
Performance issue claim
Consumers may participate in this class if they meet specific criteria:
- Owned a Keurig K-Supreme, K-Supreme Plus, or K-Supreme SMART coffee maker.
- Experienced a permanent loss of power during the descaling process.
- Complained to Keurig about the defect within 12 months of purchase.
- Filed the complaint between October 1, 2020, and June 20, 2025.
- Did not receive a remedy from Keurig pursuant to its limited warranty.
The settlement fund caps performance issue claim compensation at $250. However, the actual amount received will depend on valid claim filing and eligibility.
Coffee maker purchaser claim
The coffee maker purchaser class includes a broader group of consumers:
- Anyone who purchased a K-Supreme coffee maker between October 1, 2020, and June 20, 2025.
- Purchasers who used Keurig's descaling solution with these models during the class period.
- Consumers whose coffee makers are no longer under Keurig's original warranty
This class excludes individuals who have already received remedies from Keurig or those who belong to the Performance Issue Claim Class.
Valid coffee maker claims may receive a 12-month extended warranty rather than cash compensation.
