Walgreens Class Action Settlement

In recent years, Walgreens has faced various legal challenges, including a class action lawsuit that has gained significant public attention.

A $100 million settlement has been reached to resolve the class action lawsuit that claims Walgreens inflated its pharmacy drug prices by not considering the prices charged under its Prescription Savings Club, known as the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club.

What Is the Walgreens Class Action Lawsuit About?

The proposed lawsuit against Walgreens claims that the pharmacy chain wrongfully overcharged insured customers, health insurers, and other payors for prescription drugs while they were members of the Prescription Savings Club program for the last decade.

The Prescription Savings Club program allowed members who paid a low annual fee to buy more than 500 widely prescribed generic drugs for $5, $10, and $15 for 30-day prescriptions and $10, $20, and $30 for 90-day prescriptions without insurance.

Walgreens has not admitted wrongdoing but has agreed to pay $100 million to resolve the lawsuit alleging it overcharged customers for generic prescription drugs. “We admit no liability and believe these claims never had any merit,” a Walgreens spokesperson said in a statement. “This resolution allows us to focus on our turnaround strategy that will benefit our patients, customers, team members, and shareholders.”

Who May Qualify and How Much Can Your Claim?

To potentially qualify for a payout, you must be an individual or entity in the United States who paid for prescription drugs from Walgreens using insurance benefits at any point between January 1, 2007, and November 18, 2024.

The amount of compensation you received from the class action settlement depends entirely on how much you paid for eligible prescription drugs during the period between January 1, 2007, and November 18, 2024. The $100 million settlement fund will be divided into two groups: 80% for third-party payor claimants and 20% for individual claimants, distributed on a pro-rata basis, after expenses including administrative and lawyer fees.
