Popular hair care brand Olaplex is a well-known hair care company that produces shampoos, conditioners, and other hair care products. However, they’ve been facing multiple legal battles over the recent years. Including a now faces a new class action lawsuit accusing it of misleading consumers and violating California’s strict labeling laws.
A class action lawsuit, Atamian v. Olaplex, Inc., has been filed against Olaplex Inc., alleging that the company falsely advertised its hair care products as “Made in USA,” violating multiple consumer protection laws. Learn more about the lawsuit and whether you may be eligible for compensation.
When Was The Olaplex Class Action Lawsuit Filed?
While Olaplex is facing lawsuits regarding some of its products causing hair loss, scalp injuries, and other adverse reactions, this lawsuit relates to a different issue.
Filed in April 2024, plaintiffs argue that this labeling misled consumers and violated several California consumer protection laws, including California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Made in USA Statute, Unfair Competition Law, and False Advertising Law.
Under California law, a product can only carry a “Made in USA” label if all or virtually all components of the product are made in the U.S. This includes both the ingredients and the packaging. The lawsuit argues that Olaplex violated this standard by:
- Using foreign-sourced raw materials in its formulas.
- Packaging products using imported containers or parts.
- Labeling products “Made in USA” despite these foreign components.
The lawsuit claims that this labeling practice gave consumers a false impression of Olaplex products and that Olaplex “deliberately and illegally” tricked consumers into believing the products were made entirely in the U.S. for economic gain.
